Quran Learning Glossary

Short answer: these are the core terms behind Quran teaching credentials and Hifz (memorization) methodology, explained on their own pages so you don’t have to piece them together from context.

These aren’t QuranlyHub-specific jargon — they’re the standard vocabulary any parent or student should recognise when evaluating an online Quran teacher, anywhere. Understanding what an Ijazah actually certifies, and what a Sanad behind it should look like, is part of the same verification process described on our tutor verification page.

Terms

  • Ijazah — the formal certification a Quran teacher earns to recite, and to teach recitation to others.
  • Sanad — the named chain of teachers behind an Ijazah.
  • Riwayah, Hafs and Warsh — the different authenticated ways the Quran has been transmitted and recited.
  • Sabaq, Sabqi and Manzil — the three-part daily revision system used in Hifz (memorization).
